Internal Mobility Tips

Application Process

Q: How can I apply for an internal move with G4S?
A: You are in the right place! We post all our internal, and external vacancies right here. Simply find the job you are interested in and click ‘apply’. If you haven’t done so already it’s good practice to speak to your line manager before applying to make sure they are aware you are interested in an internal move.

Q: What is the application process for internal jobs?
A: After you complete an online application with G4S you can expect a notification via email confirming that your application is submitted and under review. For the next step you can expect feedback from the designated recruiter and if you have the right experience you may receive an invitation to complete a telephone screening or an in-person interview.

Q: If I am applying via the Internal Careers portal, do I need to re-upload my CV and personal details?
A: Yes, you will need to fill in the details in the online application form. Remember, your careers experience will have changed since you first applied for G4S and we will want to take that into consideration in your application.

Q: Can I see only vacancies that are advertised to the public?
A: This site is our internal careers site where you can see all vacancies, both internal and external. External jobs i.e. those available to the public are also found on careers.g4s.com.

Q: Can I apply for a role in a different G4S region or country, and is relocation support available?
A: Any application will be dependent on local country legislation and right to work eligibility criteria. We always prioritise local applicants first. Relocation support will be dependent on the role and operational requirements.

Q: Do I need to tell my current line manager before applying for a different role?
A: It is good practice to make your line manager aware, in most circumstances the Hiring Manager would have expected you to have this conversation prior to application.

Q: Who should I contact for an informal 'coffee chat' about a management role before I apply?
A: Your Line Manager is your first point of contact to talk about career progression. They can then put you in touch with the right contacts. Remember to check out MyLearning for tips and guidance on internal mobility.

Q: I completed some online tests before being accepted for my current role. Do I need to complete any online test before applying for an internal move?
A: For some of our functional, office based roles, candidates may be required to complete a recent ability and personality test if their most recent tests are more than a year old.

Q: Will my current disciplinary record or performance rating affect my eligibility?
A: It is common for a Hiring Manager to reach out to your Line Manager for performance and conduct feedback, as you would expect a new company to contact previous references.

Q: Is there a minimum time I must be in my current role before applying for a new one?
A: No but you should have the relevant experience, skills and qualifications before applying for a new position internally.

Q: How should I prepare for an internal interview vs. an external one?
A: You should prepare for an interview in the same way as an external candidate. Remember that you will have significant knowledge of the organisations culture and ways of working which will be a benefit to you in the process, but we still need to see your suitability for the role you have applied for.

Q: If I am unsuccessful, will I receive detailed feedback to help my development for the next opportunity?
A: Hiring managers and HR teams will do their best to provide feedback for you when communicating the outcome of your application.

Q: I want to find out where I am in the process, how do I do this?
A: We are unable to comment on individual queries regarding process. You will need to direct these types of queries to the hiring manager via the communication channels they provide to you. e.g. email, phone etc.

Q: How do I know if I have been selected for an interview or an assessment?
A: If you have been selected for an interview or assessment then the hiring manager will send you an email.

Q: I have been rejected for a role almost immediately, why?
A: If you are rejected from a role straight away it means that you did not meet the minimum requirements for this specific role. As this is part of the position criteria we are unable to reset this for you. For example it might be that different security clearance is required by the client compared to other roles you have done before.

Q: Once I have applied for a job what happens next?
A: The hiring manager who is responsible for the vacancy will be in touch with you via email or telephone.

Q: When will the hiring manager be in contact with me?
A: Unfortunately, due to the amount of applications received for each role, we are unable to give specific timescales. The hiring manager will be in contact with you in due course.

Q: How long does the hiring and on-boarding process take?
A: The Hiring Process from start to finish can vary in length depending on the role and any licensing processes that might apply. Our teams endeavour to expedite the hiring process as fast as possible. If you are successful, your line manager will provide details of the onboarding process which will vary in duration depending on your job role.

Q: Do I need to take a drug test?
A: Some roles and countries require drug testing as a condition of employment. This is the same regardless of whether you are new to G4S or making an internal move.

Q: How long does it take to become a G4S Security Guard?
A: If you are moving into a security role for the first time, we provide training for many of our roles. For Security Officers we must also provide appropriate licensing. Depending on where you wish to work, our teams will be able to advise you on how quickly you can expect your guard licence to clear, and when you can expect to begin working.

Q: How long does it take to become a G4S prison officer (PCO)?

Delays in submitting your paperwork will prolong the vetting process which can take up to 12 weeks depending on your circumstances.

Q: How long does it take to become a G4S cash in transit driver?

Once successfully completed, you may be offered a role as a cash in transit driver (subject to obtaining an SIA licence) and a start date arranged. Once your employment has started, you will attend a 3-day induction and following the induction an application for an SIA licence will need to be submitted. Once the SIA licence is received, further training continues alongside a competent driver for a period of approximately 8 weeks before being signed off as competent.

Q: Do I need to purchase my G4S uniform?
A: We provide your uniform to you. During your orientation, your uniform measurements will be taken, and uniform items are issued to you. The amount of items issued depends on the role and whether you are working full time or part time.
