The protection service residence manager will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, security, and welfare of students living within Coventry University’s residential accommodations.
Employed by G4S and dedicated to the University contract, you will bridge the gap between protection services and student living, ensuring a safe, supportive, and harmonious environment for all residents. This role requires a unique blend of security management, compassionate student welfare support, and strong stakeholder engagement. You will manage residential protection teams, handle escalations, and work closely with the University’s accommodation and pastoral care teams to deliver a premium student experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Residential Operations & Security
- Oversee the day-to-day security operations across all designated university residential accommodations.
- Manage and deploy residential protection officers to ensure high-visibility patrols and rapid response to any incidents or emergencies within the living quarters.
- Lead the response to anti-social behavior (ASB), noise complaints, and unauthorized access, ensuring conflicts are de-escalated professionally and in line with university policies.
- Ensure all fire safety, health, and safety protocols, and building lock-down procedures are strictly adhered to within the accommodations.
Student Welfare & Support
- Act as a primary point of escalation for out-of-hours welfare concerns, supporting students experiencing distress, mental health crises, or medical emergencies.
- Collaborate closely with the University's pastoral care, accommodation management, and well-being teams to provide seamless support to residents.
- Ensure protection officers in residential areas are trained and capable of providing an empathetic, student-first approach to customer service.
Administration & Stakeholder Management
- Maintain detailed, accurate logs of all incidents, welfare interventions, and maintenance issues, ensuring timely reporting to the Customer Services Manager (CSM) and University stakeholders.
- Participate in regular meetings with the University’s accommodation management team to review residential security performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Manage lock-outs, lost property, and access control systems specific to the residential buildings.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Industry Licensing: Valid SIA License (Security Guarding or Door Supervision) is mandatory.
- First Aid & Welfare: Must be a certified Mental Health First Aider (minimum 2-day course). Standard First Aid at Work qualification is highly desirable.
- Experience: Proven experience in security management or a supervisory role, ideally within higher education, student accommodation, or a similar residential/hospitality environment.
- Skills: Exceptional conflict resolution, de-escalation, and communication skills. Ability to balance strict security enforcement with compassionate student welfare
You will just need to complete the following application form and one of our Recruiters will be in touch to discuss the next steps. Our recruitment and selection process will include an interview and screening to BS7858 standards.
Given the nature of the industry, we do need to ask some questions for security and compliance purposes, but don’t worry - you will only need to complete them once.
